LCHF Day 19: Weight loss today - none

Am I going to be worried? No. The first week I freaked out if the scale stood still, but I have learned now my body will do this in its own pace. Stick to the plan and my body will start trusting me. The body is not an oven, it doesnt burn at a 100% every day. The worst thing a dieter can do is cut down drastically on the calories to lose more. The body goes into starvation mode and you might even gain weight.

During World War II, in the Warsaw ghetto, the jews got rations of about 700-800 calories per day. If we go by the calories in calories out rule, they needed about 2000-2500 calories per day to maintain their weight if they had a sedentary lifestyle. The energy deficiency was therefore about 1700 calories. After about two years they should have lost about 375 lbs (175 kilo). Of course they didnt. They lost about 33 to 44 lbs (15-20). This proves the body has defense mechanisms against starvation. So those who think you will lose weight quicker if you go on a starvation diet, think again. Will not happen.

What will happen though, is that you will lose weight and most of it will be muscle. When the body goes in to starvation mode, it uses that which costs more energy first - the muscles. Muscles cost a lot of energy for the body - fat doesnt. Fat just sits there saved up for a rainy day or famine. And when you leave starvation mode, you regain your weight, but this time you regain fat, unless you work out to rebuild the muscle. So you are back to square one, with the same weight and less muscle.

My advice? Eat healthy, and dont starve yourself.
